Highlights In History

2011 marks the anniversary of several key events related to our modeling interests of sci-fi/fantasy/horror. While this list is by no means all inclusive, here are a few “history highlights” that I found rather, shall we say, "interesting"........................

2011 marks the:

45th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek on television.

80th anniversary of the classic Universal Monsters.

115th anniversary of the publication of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” by H.G. Wells.

138th anniversary of the publication of “A Season in Hell” by French poet Authur Rimbaud.

150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.

183 years ago, noted sci-fi author Jules Verne was born.

LOTR - Ringwraith WIP

Being a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy I couldn’t resist purchasing the Ringwraith set from Games Workshop. The set contains nine 30mm white metal figures.

After cleaning off the mold lines and flash from the figure (which wasn’t too bad) I went over the figure with some fine steel wool and washed it in some warm soapy water, then set it aside to dry overnight. I primed the figure with Citadel Chaos Black and set it aside to dry.

I’ll be back soon with more WIP photos showing the detailing of the figure and base.

Greetings!!!!! I have arrived!!!!!

I have finally arrived. Escaped if you will from the dark dungeon. Some of you I know and for those that don't, please allow me to introduce myself. They call me "Fritz" and I am The Undertaker's apprentice.

My main modeling interests are horror, fantasy, and sci-fi just like everyone else here. To date, I have not shown any of my work for fear that the master would finally found out about my own secret devious expreiments. No more hiding and lurking in the shadows. The time has come to show my own work and the results of my own labors from many a countless evenings spent practicing the skills I have learned under the guidance of the members of The Fellowship.

Be watching modeling friends for my first entry..........................

2011 Model Building Challanges Issued!

It has begun!!!!!!!!!!!

The Fellowship Model Building Challenges for 2011 have been issued! This year we have 2 challenges, each specifically designed to entice to participant to use their imagination and modeling skills to their fullest potential.

There’s a new twist this year to allow our online modeling friends a chance to participate along with us. All that you need to do (besides accepting the challenge and building the required subject of course) is to:

1. Take at least 4 photos of your kit from various angles, preferably a front, rear, and both sides. These need to be of good quality to allow the judges ample viewing to see all the detail.
2. Save the images as .jpeg files
3. Submit them to us by clicking on the “Contact Us” button at the top of the page. Be sure to put “Fellowship Challenge Entry Photos” in your subject line.
4. Be sure to include your name and contact info as well as a brief description of the basis of your subject and the modeling techniques used.

And what are these challanges you ask???? Well, continue on for a full report.

Challenge #1: The Merkava Customized Tank Challenge

The Rules:
1. Base kit to be of the Merkava tank. Both Academy and Tamiya have versions available but any manufacturer will work.
2. “Futurize” the tank by kit-bashing, scratchbuilding, etc. Kit the tank 50, 100, or even 10,000 years into the future and let your imagination go wild.
3. Basically, this is a “No Hold Bared” type of challenge.
4. Bring your finished kit to the August 19, 2011 Fellowship meeting where the winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be chosen.
5. Have fun!!!!!!

Challenge #2 The Halloween Build-A-Monster Challenge

End Date: 10/21/2011

The Rules:
1. Basically the same as last year with a few new twists to include both vinyl and resin kits along with the plastic.
2. As long as it’s a monster, it counts! Let your inner mad scientist be your guide and create the monst devious, horrific nightmare that you can.
3. Bring your finished kit to the October 21, 2011 Fellowship meeting where the winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be chosen.
4. Have fun!!!!!!!

That enough reading for today I think. Now go build something!
